Getting
to Know Our New Principal
Audrey
Sofianos is the new principal of Sutton Middle School. Ms.
Sofianos comes to our school from Indianapolis, where she
has been a principal for the past six years. She is so excited
to be a part of the Sutton Middle School Family, and to
get to know the city of Atlanta. She has moved to the Atlanta
area for this wonderful opportunity to be the principal
at our school, as well as to be closer to her fiancé.
Ms.
Sofianos has degrees from Indiana and Butler Universities,
and is working on a Ph.D. from Purdue University. She is
a former teacher who believes in a student-centered, nurturing
environment, where there is an abundance of opportunities.
She loves to learn new things, work-out, read, and travel.
The latest things she has learned about include podcasting
and knitting. She soon hopes to do a podcast where she interviews
kids and adults about important issues. As a traveler, she
has visited twenty-five countries on six continents, the
last educational trip being to Turkey. She also calls herself
a “technology geek”, and has been enjoying her
latest find, the new iPhone! Ms. Sofianos believes that
students should use technology as a tool to research, learn
and accomplish goals. She models that in her own life. She
also truly enjoys working with students, and looks forward
to attending student events, activities, and leading a club
to get to know Sutton students and their families.
Ms.
Sofianos believes in an open door policy and welcomes visits
from students, teachers, parents, and community members.

1. What is special and unique about Sutton that needs to
continue?
2. In your opinion, what areas of SMS need improvement?
3. What advice do you have for her as the new principal?
